I’m just back from an amazing weekend away with strangers. Well, not exactly strangers, but people I met online. Sounds dodgy, doesn’t it?
The website Living Sober isn’t just for “alcoholics”. It’s a place for anyone who is sick of drinking as much as they have been. So whether that’s a daily habit from sun-up to sun-down, or whether it’s the party, binge drinker (like me), it’s a terrific site with a common thread of wanting to live healthier lives.
So we decided to meet offline.

Lotta put it this way: “connecting like minded people around the globe in pursuit of happiness”. Perfect.
I’ve met a lot of new people. I’m socially awkward but didn’t feel awkward or uncomfortable for a second amongst this lot. There’s an instant connection bonding us together. The word “tribe” was used a lot by many different people over the weekend. And finally, at age 40 I feel like I BELONG.

Ah my friend, how I wish we could have spent more time together! Long narrow dining tables don’t make it easy to move around. I was hoping to chat with you at the Southern Cross but you and Jo were having a private, intense conversation, which she needed I think! You’re such a wonderful person. Last year I met up with a group of sober women I met online. They have become lifelong friends and that experience solidified my decision to be sober long term.
We do brave things!

There is no experience quite like it for me to compare it to. I’m (almost) grateful to have been a lush to bring me to where I am today…in great company!

Oh no, are you in Welly?? We (the LS members) organised a meet up in Wellington! It was on 3rd October, which means we missed meeting! I’m back in Dunedin now, of course. Do you not go on the LS site anymore?
